“Peggy has attended Crossroads since 1999. She loves going to work everyday. The staff that work with Peggy, always have her best interests in mind. They always give me good or bad feedback as to how she is doing at work. They are very professional, yet show the highest concern and compassion for the people who attend. I couldn’t ask for a better environment for Peggy to be in as Crossroads.” Sincerely, Judy, Parent

“I am the Lead Production Supervisor at the Onawa Facility. Crossroads of Western Iowa isn’t just a “Job” it’s a big part of my life as well as my family’s. Everyday is new and to have the opportunity to be part of the people I work with lives, to share in the laughter, success, tears, and fears is beyond words. I remember thinking that I was here to teach and to train and it is “ I” that have been taught and am so grateful for the opportunity to work with each individual. They say that every person you come into contact with leaves an impression with you, I’m so glad to have each person in my life. The dedication and commitment are clear. We are here to allow individuals to see that the possibilities are endless. What a great place!” - Tammie Queen, Lead Production Supervisor, Onawa

“Working for Crossroads for the past 12 years has been a wonderful experience for me both professionally as well as personally. Crossroads is even encouraging my continued education through tuition reimbursements on some of my classes! “I would like to say a few words about what this place means to me. It means having the best bunch of people around running this place. I would not want to change any of the staff, my friends try to make sure I have things to do that I enjoy and keep my interest that fit my individual needs. I would like to thank the staff and say I need everyone to stay.” - Anonymous Person in Service

“Since beginning employment with Crossroads of Western Iowa in 2003, I have seen many great things from the company and everyone who makes it such a great place to work. But the thing that I admire most about the company is how everyone, from the CEO to direct care staff, will stop what they are doing to help a consumer. Consumers are always #1 and everyone at Crossroads wants to see them achieve their goals.” - Jim Kohl, Service Coordinator, Council Bluffs

“My son and I love the program. This is the best thing that has ever happened for us. After all these years he is still excited everyday for the bus to arrive. When I ask him if he is ready he responds “Yep, I’m going”. I absolutely love the things you have done for my son. Thank you for everything you do.” - Pat, Parent

Why I Like Crossroads“Crossroads is the best workshop and I like how clean it is too! We have great stuff here, like the sort line and all the recycling! I like working at Crossroads because they helped me get a job at Pizza Hut, and because I have lots of friends here.” Thank You, Kristina, Consumer

My son, Aaron, began working for CWI over 10 years ago. During this time at the workshop, Aaron has been innovative in finding ways to need guidance. Throughout all his activities, he has been treated with respect and the interventions have been handled with love in a Christian atmosphere. We have been thrilled with CWI; not only with the workshop floor activities, but with the classes and the moral and ethical training that the administration and the floor crew pass on to the clients. Aaron has been treated with respect as a person and as a friend. We love CWI.

Retiring CEO

“When I was hired on in 1988 with Crossroads of Western Iowa (at that time the name was Monona Services, Inc.), we were a small shop in Onawa. The company held to basic Christian values. For me it was a good match. I had a work history that included IBM and then starting 2 successful companies. My wife wanted me to get back to what she termed as a “real job” that did not require working 14 to 16 hours each day. I started by driving a van and picking up clients from a few towns in Harrison County and going to the workshop in Onawa. The job paid $5.50 per hour. My wife wanted me to get a better paying job, but I was looking for something with less stress and really did not care at that time, how much it paid.
After a few months, the Executive Director moved on to another job and the Board of Directors offered me the position. My knowledge of running a not-for-profit organization grew significantly. I had a passion for actually seeing our mission lived out. As time went on we opened shops in Missouri Valley and Council Bluffs. We would often start our staff meetings with prayer and over the years we have a lot of people who continue to pray for our organization as we strive to do God’s will.
As I prepare for retirement and look back over the 20 years with Crossroads, I am amazed at the number of people to which we have provided services. We have gone from a small sheltered workshop to providing a full range of services in many locations. I have been blessed to work with outstanding consumers, staff and Board of Directors. I have seen the governing body of this organization continually look to the future and ask what is possible, yet remain firmly planted in the challenges of today.
I can retire with confidence in the new CEO, Mr. Brent Dillinger and each of his directors, confident they will keep Crossroads on the path of tremendous opportunity, both for staff and consumers! Knowing there will always be change, but also knowing that the 6 basic values of the organization are unchangeable. I will continue to pray that God will bless Crossroads and ask others to do the same.”
- David P. Lovell, Retiring Chief Executive Officer
