Recycling

Crossroads of Western Iowa believes in recycling. We believe the future of our nation, our world is becoming bound with our living more responsibly. Our ‘throw-away’ society needs to be a thing of the past.
Recycling can be done in many different ways, but the outcome is the same, namely the re-use of items we would normally discard. Although efforts to move toward recycling have been made, it remains a distant reality in many areas. Crossroads strives to increase the general public’s awareness of the necessity for recycling, and to increase their cooperation as we strive to meet the State of Iowa’s mandatory 50% recycling goal.
In Missouri Valley, Iowa Crossroads has begun recycling efforts by collecting and bailing products such as:

  • Newspaper
  • OCC (old corrugated cardboard)
  • Magazines
  • Office paper and all recyclable paper type fiber products
  • Tin cans
  • Aluminum cans
  • PET & HDPE Plastics
  • Paper shredding

Partnerships

Product is collected from a partnership with the Harrison County Landfill Commission, as well as numerous private area businesses.
For those consumers who choose to work in recycling, they can work on a sort line that separates the various fiber or plastic products, or they can work in the baling area and place material into the baler. The environment is fast paced, yet designed to accommodate individuals with various disabilities.
Crossroads of Western Iowa currently recycles approximately 1,785,000 pounds of product per year.
